Chinook RV

Saw a side entry Concourse this morning 30 miles south of Seattle. It had the 97-02 grill but not sure which. Stripe paint instead of Millennium. Very clean.

On my trip to Acadia Nat Park (Maine) this past week, saw three. Would have liked to stop and talked with them but they were all headed in the opposite direction.

Saw one today the was white with only black stripes with a thin Red pin stripe along the black stripe.

We were camping with our Destiny in Farragut State Park, Idaho last weekend and spotted this Premier with a Colorado plate.

I live on the California coast and have taken many trips from home base all the way up to northern Washington. My average count is two per trip. The last trip I took I was about 50 miles south of Eugene OR and saw a Chinook parked at a truck stop so I pulled into the truck stop and looked for the Chinook which was parked in front of what appeared to be a convenience store. On closer inspection, the building was a PORN STORE! I was back on the freeway in less than a minute.

Here is my best sighting. I was parked at the Rincon State RV Park which is north of Ventura along highway 1. This is right on the water and all parking is tandom so all can have a view of the ocean. My mission was to stay there three days so I could work on some projects on my computer. I woke up the next morning, made some coffee and got down to business. About an hour later I looked up and in the drivers rear vision mirror which reflected thru the back door, I saw a Chinook - same model and color.
WOW! I must welcome them to the neighborhood! So I jumped into the shower, slicked back my hair and grabbed a bottle of wine then shot out the back door. What did I see? No Chinook???? It was the biggest Class A I've ever seen. It turns out that they left the windshield curtain open that night and what I was looking at was my relection in their large livingroom mirror. I havn't felt that stupid in decades. I just slithered back into my Chinook -opened the wine and enjoyed the ocean view.

Have traveled all around the country and seen very few over the years. Only looked at two Chinooks when I was getting ready to buy - one was a 1996 Concourse 4 x 4 with over 100k miles, so I passed. The other one was my current rig, a 2003 Premier. Since then I've seen two on the road, one of which had "Argentina to Alaska" written over the top of the cab. Locally it turns out that there is an older Concourse just a few blocks from my home and then Scott (often on this forum) lives a few miles away. Owning one does make you notice them more but I have to say they are pretty rare.

Sounds like it was a Harley Davidson edition. Black with orange-red stripe. Only a handful around. Would love to know more about the wheels/simulators on there.

Well, not "road" per se but more the Chinook's natural habitat, a mountain retreat off the grid. Quite coincidentally the 1999 dark brown/mocha racing-striped specimen pictured set up camp next to us in the Dragoons, the craggy sky-island fortress of Chief Cochise.

The owners live only 40 miles away and we had caught glimpses of each other's rigs once or twice in passing but never stopped for an introduction and chinwag over our RV’s, especially since they are approaching almost mythical status.

Now was our chance, but we had already occupied their preferred camping spot, so didn't drone on too much about the Chinook's virtues and foibles. They were already too preoccupied with relocation in expectation of family visitors for the Veteran’s day weekend.

Like us, they regard their Chinook as a "user" and not boulevard bauble, so don't hesitate to roam more primitive back roads dispensing body scratches, chassis dings, and a lurching ride along with an invasive patina of dust. They chose to unhitch mountain bicycles for exploring narrow trails beyond the campsite, so I felt less sporting with our motorized ATV impacting the wilderness.

Not sure they are forum members here with a registered username but we will probably cross paths again.

Just got home from a 17 day/7,000 mile loop around the country! I saw several chinooks durning the trip but didn't get a shot of any of them as they were always while I was driving. Saw a very nice concourse in PA at the beginning of the trip. Another mid country while heading west, one in Moab as I was gassing up before hitting some BLM dirt roads, two in California, and one in Texas! Anyone on the board?!
