Service in San Diego for both coach and truck body?

Post by noel »

I have a 2001 Chevy C30 1-ton 3500 cutaway van chassis under a 2002 24' Destiny. The fuel line drips at the connection going into the generator when parked on an incline. Is there a facility in San Diego County that works on both the coach part and the truck part. If not, any other suggestions?
On another issue some messages on this site refer to "File". I am computer challenged and unable to find the "File" section. Thanks!

Hi Noel,

First off, I'm not sure about the "file" reference. I mean, I can't remember ever reading it in a post (?). Unless maybe someone is speaking of the Reference sub-forum. There are .pdf "files" there, with things like owner's manuals and etc. If you go to the Board Index and then peruse the various sub-forums, there is one named something like Reference, that contains these items.

On the generator servicing. I had my Onan serviced at a place that works on RV's and generators (not the house part of the RV, but the mechanical part). It wasn't in SD though. A camping bud who has a similar (non-Chinook) rig has had his serviced more often, and he's taken it to an Onan service place in various towns. i.e. they specialize in the Onan.

He also had a fuel line issue on the line that runs from the Ford fuel tank to the Onan generator last winter and had that repaired at a place that specializes in RV mechanical work. In the case of the Ford this meant dropping the Ford main fuel tank to access the fitting/hoses on top of it. So it was more of a Ford/RV mechanic type of thing vs. something an Onan specialist might do (or they might).

One thing you might do if you don't get a specific recommendation here, is find out who locally services the ambulance fleets. These are often on a Ford E-450 or medium duty chassis, but perhaps they'd be a good place to start. Then you don't get the "Oh, we can't lift anything that heavy/with duallies/etc." There are also some Ford dealers that specialize in fleet type vehicles (often larger trucks), so there might be something like that for Chevy as well.

Or better yet, maybe someone will respond with a specific/excellent local recommendation.

When I used to work in Miami, we used to deal with a Ford dealer that only sold and serviced Ford Trucks. I did a quick search online for commercial Ford dealers and came up with a few in southern California including San Diego. These guys are nationwide. I've never done business with them so no recommendations. Keep your shields up. If interested, check out the following.
