Off to Bar Harbor

Post by Xatlatc »

We didn't make it to New England last September for the foliage tour so we decided to go now to get away from the heat in South Carolina. We left on July 12th with plans to stay on the road for a month or so. If all goes well and if we still like each other at the end of the trip, we plan to sell our house in the near future and go to the Pacific Northwest and maybe Alaska. That's the plan at the moment. Neither my wife or I have been to the New England states so all this is new.
I'll add an update every now and then.

The heat followed us as we travelled. It was really hot in Mystic.

Newport, Rhode Island was packed with tourist and road construction, but we found parking places for the Chinook. No issues.

We didn't make any reservations in advance but searched the web for places to stay along the way.

Good stuff! I lived in the lower Mid-Atlantic for five summers..... and it was five too many. Oh my, hot and muggy  So your trip sounds (and looks) great! Especially Maine and points north/east.

I hope your PNW/Alaska plan still sounds fun after this summer. Now there is a dreamy area with lovely, cool weather (and not typically super rainy in July/Aug/Sept).

I tend to travel solo, so no-one to get on my nerves (well, except myself :D), but one possible "outlet" would be an air-bnb or B & B from time to time, just to spread out and luxuriate. (As opposed to just going for a bigger, more lumbering rig.)

Thanks so much for taking the time to post the photos and trip report.

Jeanie,
This is a little off from your topic but I have an identical Concourse and have been trying to find the paint codes. Mine have worn off and I need to touch up a few areas. PS go to the north side of Arcadia Park (across the bay) same rocky coast and a lot less people. If you have the time go a little further north to Cutler State Park, its worth the trip. Oh, Camden Hills is also pretty nice.
