Re: We sold the house and hitting the road

February 10th, 2018, 6:23 pm

Bisbee has been a great place to visit and a hopping place on Friday and Saturday. Oh the sights you’ll see. Art shops, street musicians, candy shops and a few people walking around talking to their invisible friends. I watched the 2:00 pm mine tour disappear through a very small rock opening into the abyss of the Queen Mine.
When we returned to the park, lo and behold another Chinook with Oregon tags. I hope to chat with them tomorrow before we leave for Benson, Az for a night.

That was a spectacular sunset last night. Smoke from the Knob Hill wildfire that just broke out in the nearby Dragoon Mountains may have added to the color.

While getting ready to leave Bisbee for Benson I met the Oregon Chinook owner named Jim. Jim is a reader of this forum and has read my posts so it was very easy to just chat. He gave me advice about traveling toward Ashland, Or. and beyond to Sequim, Washington. Thanks Jim for the tips and Manitou for this forum.
We toured Tombstone and watched the shootings in the streets and had lunch at Big Nose Kate’s Saloon. Kate was the owner of the first saloon and brothel in Tombstone plus she was Doc Holidays girlfriend. Many famous and infamous people walked through these doors. The bar was carved by a true master carpenter.

Great pics again. Going to meet Ted? Cool!

Sequim is a nice place where we seriously looked at homes to retire but in the end did not. There are a lot of retired people there. It's in the rain shadow of the Olympic mountains and rains much less there than Seattle.

Lots to see in Washington. Not sure how familiar you are with the state) Mt Rainier is beautiful but there are large crowds once the snow allows access. I suspect you may be too early for that. Seattle has turned into a magnet area for homeless and the downtown area and SODO (south downtown) has turned into a garbage pit of homeless encampments and IV drug use. Traffic is also a mess in and out of the city. (I was born and raised there and sadly avoid it at all costs now) That said the museum of flight at Boeing field just south of Seattle is worth a look. Has a Concorde there as well. I'll chime in with more later....

It's fun to follow along as you come toward some of my winter haunts. And the Pacific Northwest .... there is SO MUCH to see up there (well, you can say that about most places, but I especially like it there).

I can verify from personal inspection Xatlatc’s rig with the gorgeous teal trim is pristine. My ‘Blue Chook’ is shabby in comparison thanks to a bleached patina after having basked in the merciless Arizona sun too long. Cheers for the ongoing journey and thanks for stopping by, Ted

I have reservations at Lost Dutchman State Park for two nights next week ( near Phoenix ) so we’re exploring the Tucson area. Drove by the military aircraft boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB. Went to San Xavier del Bac Mission. Today we’re off to Tucson Mountain Park and the Desert Museum with plans to see Old Tucson tomorrow.

Thanks to our personal Tucson guide Rokrover for all the suggestions. We casino camped at the Casino del Sol with about fifty other RVs.

SMan, yes we met Ted and his lovely bride while in Benson. I’ve met three people from this forum so far. It’s too bad what’s happening in the PNW so I better experience the area before it gets worse.
Visited Saguaro National Park and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Btw, a saguaro is a cactus that can grow up to 40 feet tall. It’s the type that appears in all the western movies.
For those of us who have never experienced the desert, these pictures are for you.
