I'll try Google and see what I can find out about this.
I do believe I'll take a wrench to it. Flush that tank out and retailer it and put back in place.

After getting into the hot water heart I saw that it is a Suburban Model 5032 SW6D 6 gallon tank. It's a 1997 Chinook.

I could only wish I had the manual that came with this. After awhile I feel silly asking all the questions. But you people are good enough to help me through this.

Hey, no worries. That's the typical stock Chinook water heater (still easily available, as are parts).

This is what the anode rod looks like (you can see why I think yours has been replaced with something else)... On top a fresh one and on the bottom one that should have been changed sooner! Just the hex head sticks out to where you can see it - the rest is inside.
