MORryde spring replacement

Post by Merman0214 »

Hi all! We recently purchased a 2001 Concourse in Florida. We live in Texas. It ran and drove great coming home. It just seemed a bit low to the ground. I read everything I could find in the archives about suspension lift ideas. I was referred to a local business that specializes in springs. The guy went out and looked under my rig. It turns out that I have the MORryde springs. Both completely torn. Called MORryde and had the units sent to me. With freight, a pair is now over $600. My wife wanted me to have them installed but I haven’t found any shops that can do it. So, I’ll be going with my original plan to DIY. I’m hoping that the new units will not only improve the ride, but restore lost ground clearance. After I get these installed, next up is shocks!

With the new springs, it should be lift the back up a few inches. It is doable with DIY, but for the passenger side, you really need to get something to press it down because the exhaust pipe is in the way... at least for my 2000 Chinook. I used the Porta Power for that last time. The driver side should be easy with the installation tool.

Nice to know I will regain some lift. When I ordered the new units, I asked about the installation tool. I was told they are no longer selling them. I plan to get the Porta Power before I start. I’m having my back yard drive modified so that it is nice & level prior to installing a carport to cover the TURTYL. The leveling portion will be done on Monday. I’ll start on the MORrydes after that.

Merman0214, did you just get bumpers or whole kit, also do you have specifics parts number you can share?

Here is my ordering info from about 3 years ago. I assume the price has increased:

"FYI, replacements are about $155 each from Mor-Ryde, and they recommend an upgraded part from the original: P/N DSR108-075 and recommend they be replaced in pairs."

The part number is for one rubber spring, and I believe it is a little stronger than the original part.

Skillet had the best third party installation experience I have read about. He asked the MORryde sales person for a local installer recommendation and they gave him a good reference. He paid $250 for install with no problems. On the other hand I used a local tire dealer that struggled all day to install, and they charged $500. I think he found a "spring shop", rather than a tire shop, which sounds wise.

I also bought new nuts and bolts at the hardware store. There are three sets of holes for installing the bolts, so theoretically you could gain an inch of lift by using the top set of holes vs the middle, but my installer couldn't or ignored my request. In the long run, I am glad I didn't raise the level, because I have been in a couple of situations where the 9' 10" height was barely low enough to clear (oil change shop garage door height, for example).

Thanks, I have appt to bring rig to spring specialist tomorrow or tuesday so I will see about them fixing MorRyde, I have another place doing brakes I just ordered, we have RV recommended dealer from Morryde but RV dealer labor rate is almost 50% higher than truck shops.

I ordered the MorRyde M025-002 replacement rubber shear springs at $520 for the pair plus shipping.

When putting a lift kit on Concourse can you still use the MorRyde? Spring Shop that I had look at rear leaf springs didn't think I could keep the MorRyde system?

By the way, I asked about getting P/N DSR108-075, and they said this was for heavy bus and had higher density, they didn't recommend as they didn't think I had enough weight to compress rubber to work properly. Also, looks like prices increased a bunch over last 3 years.

Familiar topic. You may find the reference and installation manuals in the forum link here useful.

When I called MORryde they were not so familiar with the correct Chinook application so best do your own research.
