Underbody spare tire

Good afternoon all. We have a 2002 Chinook Destiny with spare tire storage under the rig. The tire descends via cable and we found we had to block it up to get enough slack in the cable to get it off. Now we are having a fit to get it back on. Any tips or tricks on how to do this? Ellen and I have been under it for at least 3 hours and all we have to show for our efforts is a load of scratches. Tried mounting with concave portion of rim facing down but cable was too loose at full wind. Trying to mount with concave section of rim towards the body but seems impossible to get the tire high enough to pull the cable end through the hole. We had noted the same issue as one gentleman asked about back in 2018, the tire was mounted at an angle and almost touching the ground. Wondering if there is a part that is not present. ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
