My 2004 Glacier with a 4R100 transmission has a drain plug. How many quarts of fluid would be removed when draining the pan.
Thanks

Re: 4R100 Transmission
if you just drain a 2wd 4r100 pan it should be 5-6 qrts

Re: 4R100 Transmission
Rich,
Thank You.
When I drained my 4R100 pan using the pan bolt I had 9 1/2 quarts.
After replacing the 9 1/2 quarts, and checking the fluid level with the engine running, but with the engine cold, the dip stick was in the full hot level.
It seems as if the Ford dealer who last serviced my transmission with only draining the pan and replacing the fluid removed overfilled my transmission. I never checked the level before draining the pan. That was a mistake.
I removed 1 1/2 quarts fluid and again checked the transmission with the engine running but still relatively cold, the level on the dip stick was in the middle of the cold range.
That means I collected 8 quarts by draining just the transmission pan. Not the standard 5 or 6 quarts.
Thank You.

Re: 4R100 Transmission
Is the fill amount 9 1/2 quarts for all 4r100 transmissions or just the one in your RV? I just got a replacement 4r100 from https://reman-transmission.com/transmis ... code=4R100 and they explicitly say 18 quarts of fluid...
Re: 4R100 Transmission
Welcome Josssh! 18 quarts of fluid is appropriate for a completely empty transmission such as a replacement unit like you have.jossh96 wrote: ↑September 20th, 2022, 1:24 pm Is the fill amount 9 1/2 quarts for all 4r100 transmissions or just the one in your RV? You get significantly less than the transmission's fluid capacity by simply draining the pan. Most of the transmission fluid is kept in the torque converter, valve body , fluid cooler and lines etc.
