What are the most common upgrades?

Post by Manitou »

I think I’m going to create a few links to products on amazon that we most commonly use for upgrades. I can think of:
1) progressive dynamic charger retrofit - https://amzn.to/2PoP6l1
2) water pump replacement - https://amzn.to/2E5Jri0
3) ditrectional silonoid for engine to house battery separation
4) dinosaur fridge retrofit thingie
5) is there a common solar upgrade controller or panel?
6) fantastic fan?
7) any air con thing?
8) maybe generator carb rebuild/replacement?
9) Suburban water heater - https://amzn.to/2Eh4pLy
10) Suburban water heater anode replacement - https://amzn.to/2PodZgC
11) Plug end replacement for shore power cord - https://amzn.to/2rlt6Os
12) Dometic toilet seal kit - https://amzn.to/2L1V4HT
13) sewer dump valves and housing (did you back into a curb? yea, me too) - https://amzn.to/2L2I8S4
14) Ford V-10 fan belt (need to borrow a fan belt tool from autozone to replace this) - https://www.amazon.com/Continental-Elit ... cesacom-20
15) Cell phone signal booster - https://amzn.to/2L1daKe
16) Tire pressure indicators - https://amzn.to/2L2N1e3

ooooh, I am definitely keeping an eye on this thread. Are you keeping this coach specific or are you including upgrades to the chassis as well?

Good point. I know i did a few common repairs to the ford chassis as well (engine mostly.. fan belt, starter and solenoid, spark plugs). So.. anything from amazon that makes sense.

*Not quite an upgrade, but it should be in everyone's door pocket, so consider it an "upgrade" from nothing* I just bought the "Dually Tire Air Check Kit" from Amazon. Scott had recommended these as an alternative to extended valve stems for DRW. I aired up last weekend using an air chuck I had, but it wasn't pretty. Had to scrounge around for a chuck that kinda worked and an air gauge. This setup (or similar) should work a lot better for checking tire pressure and airing up.

Needs a 1/4" coupler for the air chuck, but I already have one.

Milton S-693-12 1/4" FNPT Extended Reach Dual Head Air Chuck $12.14- http://a.co/d/6Otz0Sm

AstroAI ATG230 Digital Tire Pressure Gauge 230 PSI RV Heavy Duty Dual Head $16.99- http://a.co/d/7TqmZn8

Alligator V2B Inflate Through Valve Stem Cap Gator Auto RV Semi (10 Pack) $12.99- http://a.co/d/gpnXtQk

I've got a question about this thread. I'm guessing you are setting it up so that can use Amazon affiliate links to generate funds for forum support. I can see why you'd want to do that, but on the other hand I wonder if this is going to be unwieldy or might turn into a jumble. For example, there won't be discussion about "do you really want X product or might Y fit your situation better?"

So how would we use it? Refer people to this thread if we are discussing upgrades in another thread? Then they comb through looking for the link? Don't link things in other threads (where they are right in with the discussion)?

Maybe I'm missing something but I have a "cumbersome" feeling. It makes me think of the Yahoo! type format where you have photos but they aren't interwoven with the discussion (this is links, not photos, but is similarly in "another" area of the forum). It ends up feeling disjointed (IMO).

On the other hand, I have no problem with you making funds via affiliate links, if that's the purpose of it (hey, we want to keep the forum going, which means keeping you going!).

I don't know.... what do you think?

My comment is that the shorten link does not work for me unless I go home and use the Internet. My company's proxy server do not like shorten links.

Easy Blu, this thread spurred me to look into the affiliate thing in more detail. As luck would have it, someone wrote an extension (code) for the forum software we use here. This amazing extension automatically spends any amazon link on this forum with the affiliate "code" I have with amazon. So, no need to come back to this thread.
Not that it matters anymore, but my thinking was to build a list of say 10 or 20 common items and then find a new way to present them. I hadn't thought it all the way through, and now I dont have to. I think we made $1 yesterday already somehow haha. (i say "think" because i don't understand the affiliate interface at amazon yet. 2 places say $0, one place says $1).
That all said, caconcourse.. your post is awesome. thank you!

The Fan-tastic Fan vent cover link on Amazon previously referenced does not fit a Model 6000 unit most of ours have (flat lid, not domed). After extensive research, and a failed attempt to make the referenced one from Amazon work, I found the correct one here https://www.vintagetrailersupply.com/Fl ... 1&CartID=0 . I hope this helps others, and saves you the frustration of finding the right parts.

Thanks for posting this. I have purchased the aforementioned domed lid for my fan and it fit fine, so it sounds like we have more than one model installed on our Chinooks, so people should check. Hard to say what most of us have, since I assume mine was stock. May be based on model year. Mine is a 2001.
