Leak in roof under solar panel

Post by apert1 »

I am remodeling a 1995 Concourse, and there appears to be a leak in the roof beneath the solar panel. It appeared on the interior ceiling directly beneath where the solar panel is on the roof. Any suggestions about how to fix the leak without removing the solar panel?

Probably the panel mounting bracket is not water tight. Take a look and see if the screws are loose and there is a gap that let the water to go under. However, water travels a bit of distance between the laminates, so it can be your fan or AC that leaks and get all the way under the panel when it go inside. The solar panel is relatively easy to uninstall if you have the tools that let you get on the bolts. Just take time, and you may want to reseal it after all these years anyway. Why so firm about not removing it?

would prefer not to remove the solar panel to prevent opening up more leaks. Will be living in the unit in one week, so dont have time to do more damage before fixing what damage we have now. Will check seals around other units. If did remove the solar panel, is there a good way to re-cover all the holes it will leave?

Butyl tape and caulking are two usual ways to water-proof the rig, I think. Check other threads and see how others do it. Avoid silicone if possible, since it is difficult to remove, and leave behind residue that make it difficult to re-caulking later.
