1997 Chinook remodel

Hello! My husband and I just purchased a 1997 Chinook Premier and we are excited to personalize it a bit. I was wondering, for those of you who have changed the wall covering, did you paint over the covering that looks like wallpaper, or remove it prior to painting the walls? Additionally, has anyone found any newer-looking covering for the AC unit on the ceiling? The AC works fine and doesn't need to be replaced; however, I am not a fan of the older-looking yellowish plastic. I know the lights that are the same color are fairly easy to replace and the vent fan is already new and white. I would like the AC covering to be white as well. Not sure if it can be painted.

you can paint it. i would scuff it and get a etching primer then paint away
