Chinook RV

Thought I’d post up some pictures I took inside a rare 1950 Airfloat Land Yacht during a vintage trailer show to highlight the gorgeous woodwork and porthole windows. It even had a wine cellar in the floor! This beauty was for sale for $65K back in 2010 and may provide some lavish interior decorating ideas for our Chinooks.

Very retro. Beautiful interior. Reminds me a bit of the Beaver camp trailer my family had back in the early 60's. Lots of wood and very heavy. (Not near as nice though) I remember having to get block ice for the icebox fridge.

If you don't have a Pinterest account, why not? It's great for collecting and sharing ideas. (I'm looking at you, Blue I think you should have a public board containing all your Chinook disassembled interior shots. Could help many owners with a collection in one spot like that! Not to mention being a great reference for yourself.)

Plus you can have up to three private hidden boards. I use those partly to keep photos of all the information plates on my Chinook, from Ford door VIN build and paint plates to the Onan serial plate, along with photos of parts like the gen carb and the inside of the electrical distribution panel. That way, no matter where I am or what device I have, I can access that info if I need to.

Good idea kdarling - it’s like having your own cloud storage for immediate reference, provided there’s a linkup. Case in point with my recent fan troubles searching through onboard hardcopy files for some Fan-Tastic Vent schematics only to find the file didn’t exist. The Chinook Owner’s Manual wasn’t any help either.

Seems I’m still in the dark ages as Youtube has most everything covered, although not always well presented. Or perhaps an iPhone ap to 'just ask Siri' who’ll then talk you through decorating, troubleshooting and oh - anything you desire. Sigh, all of mankind’s knowledge (and personal surveillance) on hard drives!

Along the same lines, if anyone is in Amarillo, TX, and interested in vintage campers and motorhomes (and/or motorcycles), consider stopping in to the Jack Sizemore Travelland RV museum (and it's also a current RV dealer and parts place). You walk through the regular shop and out back in a huge building is a wonderful (and free) museum. Most of the units were purchased by Jack through the years, and you can walk into most of them. There must be a hundred or more, plus other period items. It's amazing and cool! A random sample from when I stopped in:

Reminds me that I've always wanted to go visit the Elkhart Illinois based "RV/MH Hall of Fame":

Pretty appropriate place considering how many travel units have been built in Elkhart over the decades. Last I checked, half of the RVs on US roads today, were built in that county.
