We left Sedona via Hwy 89A north to Flagstaff. What a ride! Hwy 89A is on the bottom of a 16 mile canyon with creeks, mountains and great scenery along the way. Another wow indeed. Today’s destination was Laughlin, Nevada, but...

A funny thing happened when leaving Flagstaff on I-40 for Laughlin,,,it was Williams, Arizona and Hwy 64. Do I pass up Hwy 64 and continue to Laughlin? Would I regret not getting on Hwy 64 at Williams and going north for an hour on a two lane road to even colder weather to the Grand Canyon? Yesterday we decided not to go because it was too cold at the Canyon with the possibility of ice on the roads but, the right blinker went on and we exited onto Hwy 64N and headed to the Grand Canyon. Parked at the Visitors Center and hopped on the shuttle bus. Nice bus system.

How crowded was the Canyon this time of year?

Skillet, The park was not crowded at all. Good amount of people but I was able to get the closest RV parking spot possible to the Visitors Center. Busses were not full. One shuttle route doesn’t start until March 1st to some more remote areas but private vehicles are allowed until then, weather permitting.

Did you know there is a train that runs from Williams to the Grand Canyon National Park? I didn’t. If I’m here again, that’s the way to go. The Railside RV Ranch allowed us to stay at their park even though they didn’t open until March 1st. We were their first guest of 2018. They have a shuttle service and train reservation service that would be great to use. Good people and a great way to get to the park.

Tomorrow we’ll be going from about 6500 feet to about 700 feet. Oh my popping ears.

We left Williams, Arizona for Laughlin, Nevada and practicality coasted down the mountain into Laughlin. Rv’s were parked all over the casinos parking lots, probably over a thousand. I found full hookups at Don Laughlin’s Riverside RV Park for $120.00 a week, free water taxi across the Colorado River, wide sidewalks for walking around and public bus system for $2.00 or $1.00 if you register with the bus system. We stayed for a week with 700 others and walked miles while there.
I picked up a cancellation at Zion National Park for two nights, so we left Laughlin for Zion with a stop at Valley of the Fire State Park and a dry camp in Mesquite, Nevada. The ride from Henderson,Nevada to Valley of the Fire via The Lake Mead Recreation Area Hwy 167, Northshore Road was one of the most scenic rides we’ve been on. It’s a toll road and my America the Beautiful Pass covered the fee. I’m now $50.00 ahead by buying that pass back in New Mexico. I thought I would see the Milky Way last night but the lights from Las Vegas were too bright from over 50 miles away. Maybe in Zion.
