Just a shot of the concourse sitting in my driveway. I removed the front wheel covers because they did not allow you to reach through and lock the front hubs manually if you so desired.

Nice rig. I see WA plates, but CA in your sig. Where are you located, and where did the rig come from?
Former owner of a 2000 Chinook Premier, V-10, with no Interior...

Ah yes. This rig was purchased new by my buddies mother in law for her to be able to traverse getting to some remote property she owned in Colorado. This rv was registered in Colorado even while the family lived in cali for awhile.( chinook was in Cali during this time being stored) Then they had moved to Washington state several years ago and brought the chinook with them to be stored up there. I have it now in Cali ( Santa Cruz ) and waiting to get all the paper work together to final the owner transfer and put CA plates on it.

I have noticed there are actually several members on here that are in Santa Cruz as well. Been keeping an eye out for their rigs driving around.

Or, check out the 4WD diesel Winnebago Revel that recently shared our campground for an off-the-shelf item. I was never a fan of the Sprinter diesel chassis but Winnebago seems to have done a good job as the brand recovers with innovative products.

I was embarrassed to have held up this fancy rig while repairing our Chinook on the side of the road. Definitely the Chinook has more room and comfort without the Revel's sticker shock.

Happy Wednesday everybody. Hope you all survived the Christmas Holiday, Thought I would ad to this thread since I treated myself to new tires on the chinook last week. LT235/85R16's, I ended up with my go to all terrain tire of choice, The Goodyear Wrangler dura-trac. They have a nice thick sidewall which doesn't sway on the highway, great tread. I have used these on other vehicles of mine and have been very happy with them.

Its hard to go wrong with them, I was hoping to get some more time out of the tires that came on it, but they were from 07' , at best they were at the wearbars, the worst was half scrubbed clean like an old bias ply and they were cracking length wise in the thread area. it was a very expensive Tylenol to avoid that potential headache but avoided the high probability of having to get the bottle jack out and deal with it on the road. What made me the most nervous was the chance of blowing a steer tire, and with this thing being higher up, the thought was not palatable at all so I just went ahead and fired up my credit card, they look pretty awesome as well.

I'd say you definitely did the right thing. 12 year old tires are just a disaster waiting (or maybe not even waiting!) to happen. And with a rear tire failure, while it may not cause your handling to immediately go south, it can do some very nasty/expensive damage to the coachwork (wheelwell, plus other stuff depending on which side it's on).

That's the truth, over the years here at my work I've lost several treads ( since we still run re-capped tires on the rear axle) most don't harm much but a couple have sent the buses to the body shop because they blew out the floor or damaged the fiberglass body so bad. In reality, the cost of the new tires were potentially much cheaper than sending the nook to the body shop to get glass work done or whatever else a vengeful tire might have done.
