TV/Stereo question
TV/Stereo question
Just replaced the stereo with a Jensen (bluetooth, cd, dvd, am/fm) which I've connected to an Insignia 19" led that has 12 volt power cord. I can't get the TV on without generator power. Is it possible to run both the dvd from the stereo unit with the TV on house batteries? I can't remember if the original CRT TV ran on house batteries or not.

Re: TV/Stereo question
The original TV did run off the house batteries, and has a dedicated 12V circuit and fuse from the 12V distribution panel (brown box). It did not require the generator or shore power to work. The original stereo gets power from the truck battery in most units, presumably to save settings. It can be rewired to run off the house batteries, if needed, but it doesn't matter a lot either way.100str8 wrote: April 3rd, 2019, 3:33 pm Just replaced the stereo with a Jensen (bluetooth, cd, dvd, am/fm) which I've connected to an Insignia 19" led that has 12 volt power cord. Sounds like your new TV is not connected to the same source as the original, or there has been some rewiring. Don't know how or why a 12V source should need generator or AC power to operate, if the batteries are charged and switched on.
We run our TV sound through the stereo and watch VHS and DVDs all the time on battery power.

Re: TV/Stereo question
What do mean by "12 volt power cord?" Do you mean a 120 Volt AC power adapter that you plug into the AC outlet to get 12 V DC output?
If it is a black/red DC cable, how do you connect your Insignia to the power?

Re: TV/Stereo question
Yes, a 12 volt power adapter. It is the original cord to the TV. When I tried to power on the TV with the Chinook 12 volt power cord it would not turn on. I checked it with a meter and was getting about 8 volts. Is there a fuse I can check and if so, where would I find it?

Re: TV/Stereo question
I am confused. I think you need to explain a bit more. Typically, if your TV can accept 12V DC, you connect the TV to the 12V battery directly (via a fuse) with a DC cord. The AC adapter is only used when you have shore or generator power.
If a fuse is a problem, it will be no voltage.
1, 110V AC -> breaker -> AC adapter -> TV
2, 12V battery -> fuse -> TV

Re: TV/Stereo question
Problem solved. It was a fuse. I checked it yesterday, no red lights, today red light. I think I need my eyes checked. In any case, all is working. Still learning the ins and outs of the Chinook. Really appreciate the help.
