Do you still have the side entry unit, and did you do a 4x4 conversion on it too? Nice that there is someone who wants to save and upgrade Chinooks. Love to follow along and see progress.

Thanks for sharing with us Mark.

Hi thanks for the response. I realize this all a bit jumbled, but my computer skills are a bit deficient. Hard to believe I can do this massive project but can't get this info on here efficiently. I got a lot more done today. I am now waiting for the transmission to get back from tranny shop. Then need to address the rear springs. Yes I still have my side entry. I will be converting it to 4x4 as well. Image

I merged the threads into 1 per blugo request. May not be in the correct order though..
As for the conversion and work.. you mention 4.11 gears.. is that a typo? Pretty sure you’ll find the rear is 4.10.
Looks like a fun project since you have the tools and shop for it. What’s your plan for the rig after it’s done?

Mark,

Again, no worries. I completely understand how annoying it can be to be able to do "real" things but then something so (seemingly) small as getting them online in an organized fashion can be so frustrating! I'm from the generation(s) that did NOT grow up with a computer in my hand, so I get it.

That said, it looks like Manitou combined all the threads into this one. Yay! Thanks, Manitou!

So Mark, as long as you find this thread and open it each time, then go to the bottom and hit "reply" and then make your post there (about this conversion project), then they will all fall neatly in line. If you can't find the thread, you can go to the upper left under the photo and click on the three horizontal lines that are labeled "quick links." You could then either click on "your posts" (which will show you your posts and likely this thread), or, if it hasn't been too long between updates, then "active topics" will probably find it too. If you find more than one choice, look over to the right at how many posts/replies there are and choose this one which will likely have the most now that it's all here.

Okay, now back to the REAL project :D

Just a pessimists caution: when my one-ton van was lifted and converted to 4WD an unanticipated consequence became an intermittent “death wobble” at freeway speeds. This depended on some subtle interplay of factors like road surface, wheel alignment, tire pressure, balance, steering geometry etc. that I never completely eliminated. A steering damper wasn’t a reliable cure so I never trusted the van on freeways again.

Duly noted. That is why I use the Quigley front axle system. It is tried and proven and approved by Ford Motor Company. It is also a fairly modest lift; I have already successfully done this conversion on a couple of E350 vans including my daily driver.
