Well the generator is out and sitting in shop waiting for me to dig into it and find problem or problems, took about 4 hours to do it and a lot of that time was building a landing platform a 1/2 higher than the opening. Put some ratchet straps around it and slid a pipe through it so the wife and I would have something to hold on to. Really not that bad of a job once you figure out how the gas and AC output power hook up. Put some plywood on the bottom and now I have some extra storage space for up coming journey. Once the generator is fixed I guess I will have to give it up though . You really have to learn how to pack these rigs .

On another note where has everybody that bought parts for these get them, like control boards, voltage regulator and carb. I see that Flight Systems make replacement parts that are rebuildable and a little cheaper

i got all of my parts from onan simply because its to much work to risk getting defective 3rd party parts.

Thanks for posting the details. I was wondering if a landing pad just a smidge higher would work (and perhaps reduce risk of damaging the fiberglass along the bottom edge). I like the pipe/handle idea!

It's funny: There is little I do "for re-sale" on my stuff. I just don't like basing the way I have or use things on the theoretical next owner (one reason I don't buy brand new things - then it's just too risky). BUT, even though I have NEVER ONCE used the generator (save for running it to exercise it), and I would really like that space for something else, I can't quite bring myself to remove it. Stupid brain :?

Landing pad worked great, once you get everything unhooked that you can from the front---battery positive cable (make sure it is disconnected on battery end or breaker is open or tape it up good ) I had the control board already off so I was able to disconnect the AC wires from ground terminal under the control board and the circuit breaker on generator or if you do not have the control board off you will have pull them through the flexible conduit that goes from generator to junction box in drop down section of rear closet (TIP if you tape a wire to them about 8' long you can use it to pull wires back in on reinstall ) after you have unhooked them in junction box . You will have to unplug the remote starter plug at generator . Unhook the gas line but make sure you have a clamp around hose so it will not leak gas all over you I used a pair of vice grips, expect a little gas to come out. I suspect there is suppose to be a filter under the coach but po must have decided to put it in the generator enclosure ?

Once you have those items unhooked and the bolts underneath off and muffler off and door off from outside you can take a pry bar and gently lift the generator, I had a bunch of 1/2" blocks and put 3 of them under each end and was able to move generator out enough that I was able to get to the ground wire that is hooked to a stud on the left side bottom of generator as you are facing it and to a torx screw that holds the flexible conduit clamp that holds the flex to generator. After that it is just a matter of pulling and lifting as you go, the fuel line will come with it as you pull it out as well as the AC power wires

Catastrophic failure on the generator, got the cover off and started finding off white plastic pieces from an unknown origin. Got tore down enough to see the brushes and the slip rings which were not tarnished as bad as I expected them to be but still had an open in the circuit so I checked the slip rings themselves and still no resistance so after closer examination I found where the plastic pieces came from, they were from the motor side of the rotor they keep the wraps of wire in place, for whatever reason they broke it damaged the rotor and stater windings which also shorted out the voltage regulator and probably the control board as well. So now it is at a point that it will cost too much to repair so now I am at the point of back up and punt.

Luckily I have a Yamaha 2400ishc that will power the AC no problem and once I find out if the AC unit has or not a hard start capacitor and if it does not have one I will install one, I did hook it up to Scoobie and AC kicked off just fine
