could find something wrong with any conversion.
Then why convert?
Generally speaking, people do this despite the disadvantage because of the expected pay-off out weights the issue. It is like we still takes some medication even if there is a long list of possible complications, it is not prison because there is some benefit.

Because the stock ride is shit. They are way under sprung,
and if I want to head south in the winter the added 4x4
is a benefit driving on snow packed roads.

You cant dispute the advantages of having four wheel drive. But somehow i think youre fooling yourself if you think theres going to be some dramatic improvement in ride quality by switching to a straight axle with leaf springs. Its a 5 ton truck before its ever loaded and its always going to ride like a 5 ton truck. You strip out the independent front suspension in exchange for a solid axle, by default you just made the ride quality harsher by making it impossible for each side of the truck to react to a bump independently of each other. But as long as you have yourself convinced that its going to make it ride like your family sedan thats all that matters.

Never said it was going to ride like a Cadillac I know it's a one ton
van chassis. The RV manufactures purchase the cut away chassis
and they never do anything to the rear springs to compensate for
the weight of the rig. I used to travel the country installing carpet
in hotels. I had a E350 extended 7.3 Powerstroke van as my work rig.
I had it converted to a 4x4 because on snow packed roads a van sucks.
It sure helped driving on snow covered roads in winter. I also know that
converting it to a 4x4 isn't going to make it a rock crawler. The reason
I want it to be a 4x4 is so I can travel year round in any type of driving
conditions. If you're happy with what ever rig you have that's all that
matters. It is what it is.

I am very happy with my Quigley conversion; I found that achieving the "best ride" was by weighing the front and rear of the vehicle and then adjusting the air pressure as per the tire manufacturers specifications; I was shocked how low the correct tire pressure was. (see Blue's discussion in this forum); Once I had the correct tire inflation the ride was much improved.
