I am trying to sell my 2001 Chinook and the rubber on the spare tire assembly is ripped. Are there any inexpensive fixes. I can't get the spare to stay up without using a hammer and then I can't get it down....

Is it one of the two black rubber bands on each side of the latch? I have similar issue, and I was about to make one out of rubber tarp strap and see if that will work.
