Chinook RV

If you didn't guess from the greeting, I am Australian, living in Fremantle Western Australia. I have been researching US made RV's on and off for the last couple of years. I use to manage a Quarantine wash pad for mining equipment heading up to the Gorgon gas project back in 2013 when a client brought a 1986 Vogue 2 29" Motor-home thru the facility. I have been mad keen on them ever since. during this latest hunting expedition for the right RV, It was recommended to me that I start looking at B Class RV'S, instead of limiting myself just to the Vogues.
After much reading it's now the Chinook that has my attention (I admire quality made products) and as with anything, one should go where like minded people hang. So here i am.

The plan is to ship one of these Chinooks over to this side of the world, around August - September 2020. Just in time for our summer which kicks off around November and usually starts getting cold around late May. I can not think of anything nicer than driving around Oz with the miss', in a Chinook.

I lurked this site before buying as well. You'll find tons of advice, tips, help info, and all around good conversation on this forum. Don't hesitate to ask questions to help in your search for a Chinook.

I wish I found this before looking for my rig. I would be much better at what to look for when doing the inspection.

Small World : My parents owned a 1986 Vogue. The buyer said he was going to export to Australia. If the Vogue was blue, it could have been the same one. Now my family own a Roadtrek 4x4 Sprinter and My wife and I have a Chinook. Good luck in your search and I assume the exported vehicle would need a right hand steering conversion like the Vogue did. Surprisingly that's no longer the case, The "Nanny State", decided a few years back that it's OK to keep as is. The Chinook's rear entry design makes it ideal in over coming their stated concern of passengers exiting into traffic.
When I go to on-sell an RV, I must get a sparky, (auto electrician), to run the power thru a converter and convert it to 240v.

I figure a good camera on the right of the machine will assist with overtaking and getting use to either a shiftier/or stick on the right ain't no concern. Apart from the added costs of cartage, it's going to be a blast!

No conversion needed? Oh man, that's huge. Great news! In a van body especially, I imagine switching to the right would be a large undertaking. Possibly a deal breaker.

Inverter wiring and installation is pretty simple, so Sparky shouldn't be too troubled. Supplying power to said inverter is not as easy. In your area, solar solar solar!
