Metal roof vents

Anybody have any experience with the metal (opaque) roof vents? Like this: https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Vents-and-F ... SP-24.html

My front roof vent needs to be replaced, as the mechanism that raises and lowers it broke and it's now just tied shut with some string. We're going into fall, when I might actually want to open it, and also when it's cool enough to think about working outside again, so I'm pondering options.

I like the idea of the flat metal vent cover, because I wouldn't need to fuss with a shade to keep it dark at night, and it won't suffer from the UV damage I've had on practically every plastic thing on this rig.

Other than being ugly - which, it kinda is - any concerns you've heard/had about this type of cover?

Assuming your broken vent is the original Fantastic Fan, you might consider this upgrade kit, which includes a new lifting mechanism, to restore the fan to its original capabilities:

There are also kits to update the fan to lesser capable models, that can replace your broken riser and controls. The advantage to these kits, is that you keep the old fan and cover, so you don't have to remove and reseal the lid. I have a smoke-colored lid that seems to be holding up well.

Those metal lids are pretty ugly...

Agree, but they are great for metal-clad RVs...

or armored vehicles.
