Hello,

I am looking for information on my alternator output.
Would anyone know information on the alternator used in a 2004 Chinook Glacier?
is it heavy duty?
how many amps?

I will be upgrading to lithium batteries, and need more info.

For the Concourse, I think they are 45 Amp. [the thread says 130, not 45. Sorry]

Using alternator to charge battery is only a good option if you have to be driving somewhere. You may also need to match the charger appropriately with the lithium battery. They have different requirement for current/voltage for charging etc.

According to the Chinook Brochure, the Glacier has a Heavy Duty 130 Amp Alternator.

Depending on the size of your LFP house bank, you may want to consider some way of limiting charge amps going from your alternator to the house bank. Reason I say that is a depleted LFP bank can suck a LOT of amps, very quickly (as compared to, say, flooded cell batts) and this could put a lot of stress on your alternator.

If/when I replace my current house bank of Lifeline AGM's I will consider LFP. I would then most likely install something like a Victron Orion TRSmart 30 amp B2B charger (but there are others). In this case, it would limit alternator charging to 30 amps. It also allows a 3-stage charging setup that you can customize, as a bonus. It will also perform the same type of function as something like a Blue Sea isolator/combiner (which won't work on an LFP bank because the voltage is too consistent).

There are other products that use different ways (I saw one Battleborn sells that turns the alternator charging off and on).

Just something to consider.

Yes the Battle Born "BIM 225 green" device is the one I will be using. My alternator can not exceed 225 amps to use this device though.
That is why I was looking for info on my alternator output amps. the alternator should not exceed 225 amps to use it. Or my next option
was to use the Victron one you mentioned.

Aha, so it sounds like you have the charging situation in hand, and I see someone above had the spec for your stock alternator.
