How often should I run it and for how long? I haven’t needed it since purchasing it last month. I did try it to see if it worked and also changed the oil.

I would go with the Onan recommendation. I think it is 1/2 hour on half load every month? I usually turn on the roof top AC/heat pump to put the load on the genset, but I have been not been doing it on a monthly basis due to laziness.

Thanks! I’m trying to be diligent since this is a big investment for me. I suppose in time I’ll succumb to less stringency.

Wait until the genset is running smoothly before putting on the load. And turn off the load a few minutes and let the genset to wind down before turning it off (or cutting the fuel).

Thanks Chin. I keep forgetting that nuance. I end up turning everything off at once. Will try harder.

Onan recommends 2 hrs per month at 1/2 load (a/c on) if running infrequently, page 2-5 of manual:

Since doing this mine truly runs smoother with easier starts.

I installed a fuel shutoff valve for my generator, so I run it until it runs out of fuel when it is going to sit for an extended period.

I heard we should shut off the load before cutting the fuel so that it is easier for the genset when it went out of the fuel. I also have a shutoff valve installed too. (Actually it is a 3 way valve, so that either fuel or air will get to the carburetor.)
