Chinook RV

I copied the attached picture online. However, most Chinooks seem to have the identical dinette. Can someone please, tell me what is the object of this large piano hinge on the dinette seat back?

I've kinda been wondering why my dinette seat folds down. It didn't make much sense to me.

Thanks. So now all I have to do is get my wife to drive more, so I can take a nap.

When you've not purposefully loosened the latch on the dinette back, be sure that it is firmly latched. My latch broke from not being snapped tight and someone leaned on the dinette back. The latch is easily replaced, but breaking it is easily preventable.

I also wondered what that was for, ever since I saw it in a photo (my older model doesn't have it). Nice to finally know.

Funny, I was just thinkng we needed a thread in the reference section called "Chinook secrets", just for stuff like this.

One example might be the fact that some of the very last models had an electric main gas valve, instead of a knob.

Another might be something obvious in retrospect, but that I didn't figure out right away, which is that the folding front license plate holder is designed that way because it's a foot step to help you reach the middle of the windshield. Duh!

I sure wish I had one of those!!!!

They put those license plate step things on some GM-based conversion vans, so you might be able to run one down that way, donno. Had a big GMC-based Explorer van once and it had one.
