Chinook RV

Hi - I have my RV insured with Foremost and they have told me that they would go with the NADA guide values in the event that the RV was destroyed/stolen. However, the NADA guides usually understate what these rigs actually go for on the actual market. Have any of you Chinookers run up against this problem? Any recommendations for a good company to get real coverage from?

Usually you get a better deal using your home insurance company, but most of them don't do RVs (or at least older ones) any more. So I also ended up with Foremost and only covering part of its value.

The ridiculously low NADA book prices are also used by RV loan companies, so it's surprising that anyone buys older used Chinooks at all unless they have the cash.

Sometimes I half wonder if NADA automatically trolls Craigslist to get their values, and it's artificially low because of all the scam ads.

Try Progressive. I found them the cheapest and have valued at a realistic price.

I'd talk to your agent and see if they offer a stated value policy, I have one of these on my 1969 ElCamino as values are highly subjective. I had to provide pictures to verify its condition prior to getting a stated value policy.

Sent my insurance guy an email expressing my concern over their insistence on using the NADA values and haven't heard back yet. I'm going to take a look at Progressive and Good Sam as alternatives to Foremost. Makes me nervous to think I'd get a check for $15,000 if my rig was destroyed or stolen when I have almost $40k into it.

There are a lot of factors that make up your policy, however, I have a 2000 Concourse. It's insured for $21000 and I paid $255. Hope this helps.

I have progressive. You can buy a custom tailored policy on any vehicle. i use to have Mustang race cars that i dumped thousands of dollars into beyond NADA replacement prices so i had take photos and submit a list of eveything on the cars and they issued policies based on actual value. It does cost more than just using a default policy on the vehicle but at least you know your covered. Also you should check with whoever you pick to see if your personal items inside the Chinook are insured under the policy because some do and some dont, but most will cover personal belongings up to 5 grand and then you have to pay extra for added coverage on personal items inside the truck. I full time in mine so all my belongings are inside so that part was important in case someone breaks into it and steals my things while im site seeing.

Another vote for Progressive. Will check it out.
