Chinook RV

Hello All,

I'm new to this site and to RVing, I brought my first RV around 7 months ago. And I'm still learning, I have a 2002 Chinook Destiny 2400. Which needed a little work, I live in Long Island NY, and finding the right folks to work on your vehicle is very limited and expensive. I notice after a few weeks having it at a truck repair shop, I get a clicking sound turning into my driveway. In addition to while driving down the road, it seems to slighting start drifting to the left. I have great tires on the vehicle and did not notice this before. Does anyone have any ideas to what maybe causing this to happen?

What was done to it the last time in the shop? That'll give us clues.

Clicking can be lugnuts that were not tightened again. Check them. Or as simple as the wheel simulator not being tight. Among other possibilities.

Pulling could simply be a low tire. Are all the pressures correct?

Not trying to be a wise guy but you might give the tires a look for rocks in the tread.

The clicking on mine came from the metal stem on the rear tire air valve hitting the rim. Drove me crazy trying to find the clicking. Went to Home Depot, purchased a small piece of plastic tubing and slipped it over stem. Solved my issue.

On a different vehicle, but a clicking sound that only happened when I am driving below certain speed. The mechanic test drove it with me, and he came out with a smile on his face and asked me to watch as he removed the hub cap... the weight used for tire balancing came rolling out.

As for the drafting issue, I have no possible suggestion.

A friend who lived in NYC used to have a similar small Class C and he said it was nearly impossible to find someone to work on it -- so I hear you on that.

As others have said: Can you elaborate on what was done? Even if the reason you brought it in seems unrelated it might help give a clue. For example, you had Thing B done, but we know you have to remove Thing A to get to Thing B.

Also, can you say more about the sound? Is it only heard? Can it be felt at all? Or anything else you can say about it, even if it seems unimportant.

Also, it may not matter, but just to clarify, you have the Chevy chassis, right?

Thank you everyone for you professional insight. Some of the comments maybe spot on will check it out. The last time I had work done on my RV the stem from the inner tire seem to be broken. I ask if this could be look at, he said no problem, when I return to pick it up it seem to be fix. I was not charged, because that was not why I had it in the shop. He could not identify the original issue and did not charge me for fixing the stem. I notice that sound maybe a week later when I drove it to another technician to look at my first issue.

A. Looking at the documentation that came with the vehicle it seems to be a Chevy Express Cutaway. The RV is a 2002 Destiny 2400 with a 8.1L Vortec engine. Some say its a Silverado some say its a Express, not really sure.

A. No rocks it seem to have come with new Michelin Tires.

I'll update after seeing the technician, once again thanking everyone for chiming in. I'm hoping this season, I get a chance to enjoy it.

I would think it would be an Express. Reason I say that is that as far as I know, a Silverado is a truck, and I'm presuming you have a "van front" like all the "modern" Chinooks I've seen. Express is Chevy van name. Main thing is that it's a Chevy vs. a Ford because Chinook used both chassis (21-footers are on the Ford Chassis - post late 80's anyway). But plenty of things cross platforms. Still good to know though (I think some later Destinys were on the Ford as well, once they got slides (?).

I think you're right.

Destiny / Cascade were Chevy chassis.

You're thinking of the slide equipped Glacier and Summit, which yes are on Fords.

Or maybe the Ford based Maverick, which was a Destiny size, but with a front side door and a full rear dry bath.

Oh right, yes, I was thinking of the Glacier and the Summit. I guess I think of them as the evolution of the Destiny (for no particular reason probably). Thanks for reminding me of the names.
