Avatar photo sizing

Post by Astrodokk »

I have tried to find threads about this topic to no avail, and I want to download my avatar, but I keep getting a message that it has to be a certain size (6 kb), and dimension. I am not that computer savvy, so how in the world does one do that?

Well, you have to have some kind of photo sizing program. I use Preview, which is a free program on my Mac; but there are many others, some free.

I used a little trial and error, but just kept reducing it till it was accepted. IIRC it has to be a small file size plus the right dimensions.

I know that's not much help, but maybe? If you get stuck feel free to PM and maybe we can do something that way. Or maybe someone else will have better advice. It's always fun to see what people put up for their avatar.

What system or device are you using?

I was just using my iPhone, but I can also do it from my W10 PC.
I’ll look into a resizing app, but I have used PAINT in the past, and was able to proportionally resize photos before. It just doesn’t tell me what size it is, so it’s a lot of guesswork.

Ah okay, I see. Preview does tell me the size, but I'm no expert so I still have to play around a bit. Even after I got it to "take" I had to make a few adjustments because then it was too small and hard to see! I don't know what the modern day free programs are. I used to hear of Irfanview years ago for re-sizing. Huh, looks like it's still out there and still free and works for Windows 10.

Right click on your desired picture, select "edit with Paint" (probably Paint 3D in Win 10), click on Canvas, go to the right and make sure Pixels is selected from the drop down menu toward the bottom, then adjust the size to whatever the forum allows.

Hope that helps ...
