Hello,
We may have an option to trade our 25 foot Itasca Winnebago Passage Class A, 55,000 miles. runs and looks great..
for a 1994 Diesel concourse 21ft. Looks to be in good condition. Well maintained.
BUT it has 192,000 miles on it. Is that a lot for a diesel engine I know nothing about them never owned one.
They said tranny still shifts tight and they have always kept up maintenance on it. They are just looking for something a little bit bigger
Any questions I should ask them? What are they worth? If we sold our Itasca we would want about 13K for ours. Would the Chinook with that many miles on it be worth an even trade up as the drive train and everything else would also have 192,000 miles on it. They said everythign works fine, tire almost new, brakes replaced not long ago.. etc. Looks clean actually.
Any advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much..

I don't have a diesel, but I *heard* they last a long time.
As to how well the 21 feeter drives, it is fine for me, but my wife prefer not to have to drive it. She like tiny car that barely can fit 4 adults. So far, there is no problem other than one of the mirrors hit something when we were on our trip.
As to the value, I don't think you should consider it much, since RV is a very fast depreciating asset. With the economy the way it is, it is heading to even faster depreciation. You should look at how much utility and "joy" out of it. No one buy it as investment.

I didn't mean value like investment.. what I was referring to are they a dependable MH Chinooks with 192,000 miles on it.
I think we are keeping our 25 foot Class A Winnebago we like the layout better and its only 4 feet longer then the Chinook 21 and ours is a Class A room wise there is no comparison between the 2 and like I said at only 4 feet longer.
Plus the Chinook has a door out back which would limit putting on a hitch carrier and still being able to use the door and the steps.

Chinook is not for everyone. I don't want to get anything longer than 21 feet, since a few places that I would like to go to have the length limit. It also can park in "regular" parking spaces. I have no problem with not having a toad with me, otherwise, I would get a class A too. Like fishes that people caught, every inch counts in RV
There are non-diesel version that is cheaper, and some have door on the side. There are other Chinook on the market, and some are bargains, if you have the time to clean/fix them, that is. I think RV will become cheaper for both used and new market in next few years due to the economy.

With proper maintenance that diesel engine ( powerstroke 7.3l ) can go all the way up to 500k more in some cases less in others but I have a several in my work fleet of econolines that have around 450k on them.

Re: 1994 Chinook Concourse are they worth it?
Yeah understand about the length.. 25 foot here in the Northwest is max at some of the State and Federal parks nicer spots closer to the water. We just barely fit with our class A we still can fit. We don't plan on traveling across country. .
Its small enough where we don't really need a tow vehicle also and it has rear twin beds which makes it nice perfect couples rig. I think the 21 Chinook would be a perfect single rig and if it was just me I probably would have traded, but with the two of us the extra 4 feet and having twin beds does matter.
Someday we may decide to get a small Travel Trailer 16'-18'
I do like the Chinooks though always have.. so one never knows.
Thanks everyone..

Doesn't the side-entry Chinook have a full side bed on the back?

Re: 1994 Chinook Concourse are they worth it?
It appears you can only be talking about this beauty...
This one I had a 97 7.3. While it was dependable, for the most part, it was pretty sluggish.
btw, I really want this floor plan!
At this point, the only thing holding me back on this one is how LOUD the 7.3 is. You may be a hero at the truck stop, but in camp you may not.

Yes that is the one they are wanting to trade for mine.
If It was only me and not 2 of us. I would jump on the trade..as this Chinook is a perfect single person rig.
And yes diesels are louder then gas.
