2004 - 2100 Window above Sofa

Post by davey307 »

The mirror finish on the exterior of the Glass has been damaged by a shop when cleaning the rig.

Wondering if any one has a solution or recommendation as to getting replacement glass.......

TIA

That is terrible! I do not know if there is a way to replace them other than from another Concourse. I have not heard anyone who make these glasses anymore. :(

That really stinks, for all our benefit can you tell us what they did or used to cause the problem?

One possible thing is they used a razor blade? Just a guess.

Thanks for the Feedback on this.

I will have to get the Name of the Product he used and post at a later date.

It was a solution that was hand sprayed on to remove the oxidation from the Fiberglass.
He noticed it quickly on the first window and stopped - that's when he realized the coating was on the outside of the glass.
He completed the wash and wax - it looks good

Still looking for best solution for the window....I think replacement but he is looking into other options

Thanks
Dave

How awful. Please find out exactly what happened so we can avoid it - I would be very grateful for that info.

(I'm also curious because I have buffed a lot of fiberglass. Typically that is done with what are basically fine rubbing compounds that work by abrasive action, but you have to supply the motion and pressure in order for them to do anything. Was he using an oxalic acid type product for stains?)

I remember about five years ago, someone had one of the side windows broken by a rock and IIRC they were able to find a new-old-stock Chinook pane. But I don't think this particular glass is made anymore. If that is true then I would want both windows replaced so they would match.

Just thinking about this more. I don't know much about how the windows are made, but if the coating (or whatever it is) was on the outside of the glass, you'd think it would be scratched and chipped on our now mostly 20-year-old rigs, wouldn't you?

On the other hand, yours was damaged from the outside, so it must be. But it must be pretty tough.

A clue is that you said the product was "sprayed on." I don't know of any typical oxidation remover that would be sprayed on (they are usually a creamy texture and you squirt it onto a buffing pad, then put pad to fiberglass). That said people do apply acids for stains (such as Mary Kate's On & Off), but you have to be really careful about getting it on even metal or painted trailers (on boats) and people usually mask them off.

I think finding out exactly what the product was is important (won't fix your window, but still important info).

If you do end up getting new windows, Motion Windows get good reports.

Anyone know what type of coating is on the Chinook? I am interested to know. I have experience with metal coating, either by CVD process, or chemical process that people used for centuries. I heard of dielectric that often used for some of the instruments that we used in the lab, but don't know much more than that.

davey307 , can you send us a picture of the damaged area, or find out how it was done, that will be great. As you can see, a few of us are very interested to know.

I thought I had read more somewhere, but now all I can find in the manuals/brochures are "solar reflective safety glass" or "Solar Ray windows." I think I remember the word bronze in some brochure?

That said, the words printed on my actual windows say they are tempered glass AND safety glass. I always thought glass was either safety or tempered but didn't know it could be both.

Here is what is on the label. Where I have the dashes is a row of printed dots. It just looks like it's part of the style of the logo, not something missing. The question marks are because I'm not positive the 3's are 3's.

Doesn't seem to tell anything about the "Solar Ray" part though. (Side note: This is one of their Concourse/Premier differentiators. Premier is "Tinted" only.
