Service Engine Soon OBD code P1406

Post by marlaannyoung »

We are supposed to leave in a couple of days to go to the Oregon coast, 2 hour drive. Went to get gas and saw the “Service engine soon” light on in our 1998 Premier. Had the code read and it’s P1406 – DPFE Sensor Downstream Hose Off or Plugged. Of course I can’t get it into the repair shop for a couple of weeks.

Question- Can we still drive it or will it cause damage?

A quick search on google brings up info on it. Seems like it might not be a great idea to drive with it, since it could lead to something worse? On the other hand, if it just started, maybe not too bad, yet? I tend to be cautious, as I seem to always have bad luck with these things.
