Huh, have they gone up that much? When I was looking (around a year ago), the newest one (which I'd say is one of the best) was usually around $25 plus shipping, or $50 with free shipping. I paid a "fortune" for mine because it is less common (2003 style; there was only one for sale when I was looking), and it was still "only" around $125 with free shipping. I'm going to have to go take a look just to satisfy my curiosity. Were you looking at a particular style?

Edited to add: Geesh, I see what you mean! That is so weird. I looked a few times before buying, and the prices were always around what I mentioned above. Also that's what I've seen mentioned in other threads (before I was looking myself). I wonder if the "take out" business is seasonal or something? Or if it's because the vans are no longer being made now so there are no "take outs"?

Still, I bet you are right that a junkyard would yield quite a few.

Sorry to the OP that we are now discussing this in the Air-Con thread. I don't know how to move it to the console thread. Of course I started it by mentioning the dashboards/consoles.

Yeah, I forgot we took over this thread. I'll will make once last comment on consoles that I will keep monitoring Ebay and appreciate being pointed that direction. I don't absolutely need a new console right now but if that's the going price and I can't find one locally, I'll get it. I liked one I saw with lots of cubby holes. If/when I find something, I'll start another thread.
