Can a dinette be converted to a couch

Post by catbert1209 »

I have a 2004 Summit with a dinette on a slide out and would like to replace it with a couch. The water tanks are also in this area. Is there a way of doing this?

I'm mostly familiar with the 21' models, but at least in those, the furniture was offered in various configurations, which essentially means you can change it around. At least in my Concourse (no slide), the couch is behind the driver's seat where your slide is (right?), and the water tank is under the couch.

The couch in mine is about 30" deep (floor footprint), and I think the dinettes are usually more like 36" deep, so you may have some carpet lines or other things to deal with.

So I'd say go in assuming that it's possible, but then check on the details (which is mostly, what's lurking under there: Water tank, furnace, or etc.).

The other thing that might come into play is if there are any seatbelt anchors. Maybe by the time your rig was built they'd given up on "safely" belting someone in to those rear positions (I kind of hope so, when I envision a crash with someone at a dinette table...). But if not you may have anchors to remove or cover over or etc.

Share some photos?

PS: At least in my era, Chinook commonly used Flexsteel brand RV furniture. Not that you'd have to, but it's a place to start.
