Tire sizes

Post by Surly07 »

I've been told that the tire size for a '77 Chinook 18+ are no longer made.
Is this reliable info or are their still options?
Thanks.

What is the original tire size? It is a Dodge 360, right? Even if the original tire size is not available, there should be alternative tire size(s) that you can go with. The worst that can happen is that you may need to get some new rims. There are many options.

I had a 1978 with 16.5 rims and tires. Yes, they are harder to come by but not enTIREly impossible. The cost can sometimes be INFLATED from what I remember.

I was told that I could go up to 17's, but the consensus was go to the much more numerous and less costly 16's. I didn't bother.

I've had this happen (with another vehicle). But I found another similar size that worked. What you can do is go to one of many online tire sites that have a size calculator. Put in your original size, then put in a new size. The calculator will tell and show you in what ways the new tire is different (width, circumference, etc) and how it will affect your odo and speedo if that is going to happen.

Back in the day I had to just figure it out, but last year I wanted a specific tire for my car and it didn't come in the stock size. I was able to use the online calculator and see just what I would be getting in various other sizes. Super useful.
